Dr. Al began her career in dentistry in the early 1990’s as a dental assistant to Dr. Mark Eggleton, right here at 715 Hammond Street. She quickly developed an interest in dentistry and within 2 years had applied and was accepted to dental school. She earned her degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1997 and completed a two year general practice residency at UNC Hospitals. She was appointed Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor in 1999 and served for a year in the Special Care/Geriatric Clinic at the UNC School of Dentistry. She became the clinical director in the General and Oral Health Center at the school in 2000, where she helped conduct clinical research, investigating the connection between periodontal disease and overall general health. Following her appointment in the research center, she and a colleague started a private practice in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which grew and flourished for eleven years. In the fall of 2013 they sold their practice and Dr. Al returned to her home state of Maine to purchase the practice at 715 Hammond Street in Bangor.
Dr. Al has a passion for dentistry and people. She loves solving the many challenges that are presented in dentistry through the use of current science and technology and enjoys using her artistic talents in the delivery of dental care to her patients. She regularly attends a variety of continuing education courses.
In her spare time Dr. Al enjoys biking in Acadia National Park, kayaking Maine waters and doing dressage with her horse, Rockin Rabbit.
Cathy studied Dental Hygiene and Nutrition at the University of Maine and began her hygiene career in Dr. Al’s practice, more years ago than she cares to mention. She feels so lucky, through this practice, to have had exposure to many hours of cutting edge continuing education. Cathy enjoys hiking, biking, traveling, spending time with family and eating healthy.
