Dr. Al began her career in dentistry as a dental assistant to Dr. Mark in the early 1990’s. She quickly developed a passion for dentistry. Within a couple of years she applied and was accepted into dental school. She earned her degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1997 and then did a two year general practice residency at UNC Hospitals. She was appointed Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor in 1999 and served for a year in the Special Care/Geriatric Clinic at the UNC School of Dentistry. She became the clinical director in the General and Oral Health Center at the School in 2000, where she helped conduct clinical research, investigating the connection between periodontal disease and overall general health. Following her appointment in the research center, she and a colleague started their own private practice in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which grew and flourished for eleven years. In the fall of 2013 they sold their practice, and Dr. Al returned to her home state of Maine, and in December of 2013 purchased Dr. Mark’s practice.
Dr. Al is very excited to have returned to the practice where she began her dental career. She has a passion for dentistry as well as great compassion for people. Dr. Al loves solving the many challenges that are presented in dentistry through the use of current science and technology and enjoys using her artistic talents in the delivery of dental care to her patients.
Dr. Al enjoys traveling to the UK to visit her daughter Maryssa and son-in-law Jonathan, who live in London. She also enjoys spending time with her son Justin, who lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dr Al’s leisure interests include horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, cycling, Pilates, and spending time with her cat, Bodhi and her Meyers Parrot, Sebastian.
